The 16th Wyre Forest Scout Group is committed to giving young people the skills and confidence to thrive. But for many families, the cost and logistics of transport are preventing their children from taking part in activities that define the Scouting experience.
Hiring commercial minibuses or relying on multiple private cars is expensive and unsustainable. A typical weekend trip can cost families up to £30 per seat—making participation impossible for some and forcing our volunteers to cover costs themselves.
Our project to purchase a new lightweight 17-seater minibus will change that. By owning our own vehicle, we can reduce the average transport cost per young person to just £7–£10 per seat, saving families around £400 a year. These savings make Scouting accessible to all—regardless of background.
Beyond our own group, the bus will be made available for low-cost hire to other local youth and community groups. This shared use means hundreds more young people will benefit from affordable access to camps, outdoor learning, and community service projects each year.
The bus will reduce emissions by consolidating multiple car journeys, ease the burden on volunteer leaders, and strengthen the connections between local organisations working toward the same goal: helping young people reach their potential.
Over a 15-year lifespan, this vehicle will become a vital community resource—owned, maintained, and celebrated locally. With its visible Scout and sponsor branding, it will stand as a moving symbol of opportunity, inclusion, and collaboration across the Wyre Forest.
