St Michael’s Scout Troop is open to both boys and girls aged 10 1/2 to 14 years of age. We are an international, uniformed youth organisation. We are dedicated to providing an opportunity for young people to develop, to learn and to enjoy themselves. Scouting can offer a wide range of skills and services and is open to any young person, of any creed or colour, mental or physical capabilities, any belief and of any sex.
Scouting has a progressive ‘training’ scheme in the form of badges to track the progress of the individuals and to give a feeling of achievement.
There are two main types of badges, the Activity badges, and the Challenge badges.
The Activity badges provide the option to take on a new activity or an existing hobby in greater detail, and to be rewarded for their efforts.
The Challenge badges require the young person make a longer commitment or learn and demonstrate multiple skills in specified areas.
Scouting is not just about schemes, awards and badges: Games and adventurous activities are very important too, not just because they are enjoyable, but because they also help the young persons to develop their social, practical and personal skills.
